At Community Habitat Programs Inc., we're passionate about breathing new life into overlooked one-to-four-unit residential properties that larger developers might shy away from due to their size, complexity, or location!
Our mission is to rescue these distressed homes that weigh down neighborhoods and transform them into vibrant, safe assets that everyone can enjoy.
By bringing together municipalities, donors, businesses, contractors, and residents, we tackle these hidden gems one project and one block at a time—using what we learn to uplift the next family and the next community!
What
We Do
Community Habitat Programs Inc. focuses on acquiring depressed, abandoned, vacant, or underutilized residential properties and repurposing them for productive community benefit.
Our work includes: a) Identifying distressed residential properties in need of rehabilitation b) Working with cities, municipalities, land banks, and redevelopment agencies c) Acquiring properties through purchase, donation, municipal transfer, auction, or other lawful means d) Seeking grants, tax incentives, public support, and private funding e) Rehabilitating properties to safe, habitable, and code-compliant standards f) Returning properties to productive use through sale, leasing, lease-to-own, affordable housing placement, or other mission-aligned strategies g) Reinvesting proceeds and resources into future housing rehabilitation projects Our goal is not only to restore individual homes, but to help strengthen entire neighborhoods by reinvesting our resources and engaging communities in the neighborhoods we serve.
Why This Work Matters
Many communities face the growing challenge of abandoned, vacant, and deteriorated residential properties. These properties can create public safety concerns, reduce neighboring property values, increase municipal code enforcement burdens, and contribute to neighborhood decline.
At the same time, many families and individuals face difficulty accessing safe, affordable, and attainable housing. Community Habitat Programs aim to create locally operated property-rescue partnerships that can be replicated in communities as needed. Impact includes: a) Improve neighborhood appearance b) Restore properties to the tax base c) Create safer residential blocks d) Reduce blight e) Encourage local investment f) Support neighborhood pride g) Strengthen long-term community stability We believe housing revitalization is community revitalization.
